[edit] Early years
Welbourn attended Palos Verdes High School, and then Palos Verdes Peninsula High School in Rolling Hills Estates, California where lettered in football.
[edit] Professional career
Before the 2006 NFL season, Welbourn "retired" because he said he wanted to "retire on my own terms rather than somebody else's." Welbourn was in fact suspended for 5 games in 2005 after testing positive for steroids and arguably wanted to protect his image. [1]
Welbourn was reinstated around week seven of the 2006 season and returned to practice with the Chiefs on October 26, 2006. He subsequently played all nine remaining games in 2006 and all 16 games in 2007, starting every game at right guard. After losing their last nine games in a row and finishing 4-12, Welbourn was released in a postseason roster shakeup with the team.[2]
[edit] Personal
Welbourn dated actress Katee Sackhoff for a time, but the relationship ended.[3]
