John W. Lawrence

John Watson Lawrence (1800 - December 20, 1888) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Flushing, New York, in August 1800, Lawrence attended the local schools. He engaged as a mercantile clerk. He served as president of the village of Flushing 1835-1845. He served as member of the State assembly in 1840 and 1841. He was extensively interested in banking.

Lawrence was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-ninth Congress (March 4, 1845-March 3, 1847). He declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1846 and also declined the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor of New York. He resumed banking pursuits. Trustee of the village of Flushing 1860-1875. He died in Flushing, New York, December 20, 1888. He was interred in Flushing Cemetery.
