John Thompson, (born 12 October 1981 in Dublin), is an Irish footballer. He currently plays for Oldham Athletic. He is a versatile defender, although has played across the midfield in the past.
Thompson started his career at Nottingham Forest's, a product of their youth academy. He made his first professional appearance under Paul Hart in 2001-02 after graduating from the academy the preceding summer. He made over 100 appearances for Forest and scored 8 goals.
Thompson was released at the end of 2006-07 season, and subsequently joined Oldham Athletic on a three-year contract.[1]
Thompson was called up by the Republic of Ireland team in 2004, and has made 3 full international appearances so far.
