John Stanmeyer

John Stanmeyer (born March 1964), is a celebrated American photojournalist based in Bali, Indonesia.

He is best known for his contributions to TIME Magazine. His work has centered on Asian and Middle-Eastern political and human rights issues for the past 11 years. Stanmeyer has received many honors including the Robert Capa, Magazine Photographer of the Year, as well as numerous World Press and Picture of the Year awards. [1]

His career began in Tampa, Florida at the Tampa Tribune where he began working on international assignments traveling to various African and European countries and India. He then shifted his focus to freelance work on Asian and Middle-Eastern events. His photographs are known for their powerful depictions of human suffering. His current project is a book on AIDS in Asia co-authored by his wife, Anastasia Stanmeyer.[citation needed]
