John St Clair, Master of Sinclair

John St Clair, Master of Sinclair (1683 – 2 November 1750) was a Scottish noble and Tory politician.
The son of the 10th Lord Sinclair and Grizel Cockburn, he was baptised on 5 December 1683. St Clair served in Preston's Regiment reaching the rank of Captain-Lieutenant in 1708, but had to leave it, after he had killed two men in an affray. In the same year, he stood as Member of Parliament (MP) for Dysart Burghs, however as an eldest son of a peer, he had to retire in 1710.
On 13 November 1715, St Clair took part in the Battle of Sheriffmuir on the side of the Jacobites, for which he was attainted and excluded from succession of his father's Lordship. Although pardoned by a Letters Patent in 1723, and relieved by the Parliament in 1736, he never assumed his title.
Around August 1773, he married firsly Lady Margaret Stewart, daughter of the 5th Earl of Galloway and on 24 April 1750 secondly Amelia Murray, daughter of Lieutenant-General Lord George Murray. His marriages were childless.
