John Slater (actor)

John Slater (1916–1975) was a Cockney character actor usually seen as a military officer, constable, and doctor. He began acting in films in 1941, remaining active in the industry until his death 34 years later.

His career suffered serious setbacks, including a life-threatening auto accident in 1946 and sporadic bouts of ill health.

Slater narrated the Mining Review documentary series. Later credits included a lengthy run as Detective Sgt. Stone on the popular TV weekly program Z Cars and as the straight man with puppets Pinky and Perky in the 60's children's programme.
