John Stuart Allen was an interim President at the University of Florida and the Founding President of the University of South Florida. Dr. Allen came to the University of South Florida from the University of Florida, where he had previosly served as an interim President from 1953 to 1955. He was appointed to this position following the unexpected death of President J. Hillis Miller, Sr.. Dr. Allen was the original President when USF was founded in 1957 to 1970, when he elected to retire. Dr. Allen played a pivotal role in the creation of the University of South Florida, and the John and Grace Allen Center was named after President John and his wife.
