Lucas's ministry was conceived in 1985, when he says God called him to be a "Temple Builder," during a study of ministry in the Bible. One year later, while studying at New Life Bible College, God called him to write a Temple Builders book. [1] After an extensive off-and-on writing and editing process, Lucas finally published the first in a series of Temple Builders books in 2004, 19 years after originally conceiving the idea.

In 1996, Lucas also created the web site, Templebuilders.com, in order to promote his book, and to receive feedback from drafts of the book from his web audience, much of which was incorporated into the final draft for his first book.

The website also provides other Christian resource materials, including maps of Israel, and a study of the Tabernacle of Moses. The site currently receives nine-million hits each year, with thousands of new visitors also visiting the website.
