John Randel

John Randel was a surveyor from the United States who completed a full survey of Manhattan Island in over 10 years, starting, finishing in 1811. The map is contained at the New York Public Library, and is approximately 8 feet long, (2.4 meters). The map outlines the entire island and prepared it for future growth, outlining the controversial grid plan. It was the first in-depth plan for the island ever made.
