John R. McGann (Bishop)

Bishop John R. McGann was second bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre. Born on December 2, 1924, McGann was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Brooklyn on June 3, 1950. McGann was appointed auxiliary bishop in 1970 and diocesan bishop on June 24, 1976. He retired on January 4, 2000 and died on January 29, 2002.
As the head of one of the largest Roman Catholic Dioceses in the United States, McGann led over two million Catholics.
