John Purdy (cricketer)

John Purdy (September 23, 1871 — May 19, 1938) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler who played for Derbyshire between 1896 and 1906.
Purdy's debut came in the 1896 County Championship, against Yorkshire. Purdy scored just one run in his first two innings, and played four more games during the 1896 Championship season, in which Derbyshire finished in seventh position. Purdy made just three more appearances for Derbyshire following the end of the 1896 season, in 1897, 1901 and 1906.
Purdy was a middle-lower order batsman and an occasional bowler, with best figures of 3/53. He was born in Brimington and died in Ravensdale, Mansfield. Purdy's nephew, Henry, played first-class cricket for Derbyshire between 1906 and 1919.
