From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Proulx is a jazz pianist, vocalist, and composer out of Los Angeles, California. He released his debut album, Moon and Sand, on August 1, 2006.

John is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he grew up on Ethel Street in the southeast part of town. The son of two talented musicians, Mark and Suzanne Proulx, and the grandson of a jazz guitarist, John found an attraction to music at an early age when his aunts and uncles would come over to his house and have jam sessions in the living room with his parents. His mother, Suzanne, is an elementary school teacher. John’s lifelong study of music started at the early age of three when he began taking violin lessons. Not long after, he began taking classical piano lessons as well.

John attended Grace Episcopal Church for preschool, and St. Stephen Catholic School from kindergarten through 8th grade. In 1994 he graduated from Catholic Central High School (Grand Rapids, Michigan). After high school, John attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids for two years. He then moved to Chicago where he studied at Roosevelt University’s Chicago School of Performing Arts.

John has composed songs for legendary jazz artists Nancy Wilson, Mary Stallings, and Greg Walker.

He is cousin to Nate Proulx who currently resides in Fort Wayne, Indiana, teaching music, jazz, and pep band at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic School. He also directs and plays for the world-renown band, The Rubix, also Fort Wayne based.
