From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John O'Connor (February 23, 1867July 13, 1936) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break and medium-pace bowler who represented Derbyshire during the 1900 season. He was born in Pinxton and died in Cambridge.

Even prior to the beginning of his first-class career, O'Connor had commenced umpiring in matches involving Cambridge University, for whom he umpired seven first-class cricket matches between 1894 and 1896. O'Connor's playing career began in the Minor Counties Championship for Cambridgeshire, for whom he played for three years in the Minor Counties Championship.

O'Connor made his debut first-class appearance for Derbyshire in May 1900, and he very quickly became a regular within the first team, in spite of his consistent low scores as number 11 batsman. O'Connor top-scored against Hampshire in a 177-run victory at the start of June, and while their opponents finished winless and at the bottom of the County Championship at the end of the 1900 season, Derbyshire finished third from bottom and O'Connor was never to make another first-class appearance for the team.
