John Moore (1834-1901), was the second Bishop of St. Augustine, Florida. Prior to the creation of the Archdiocese of Miami (1958), the Diocese of St. Augustine had been the only Catholic diocese in the state of Florida.

Bishop John Moore was born in County Westmeath, Ireland in 1834 and moved to Charleston, South Carolina at the age of 14. He served as Bishop of St. Augustine from 1877 until his death in 1901. Bishop Moore was very influential in the expansion of Catholic schools in Florida and recruitment of religious nuns and priests to meet the ministerial needs of the diocese.[1]

Bishop Moore High School in Orlando, Florida, was named after him. The school was built in 1954.
