John Miller (NY congressman)

John Miller was a United States Representative from New York. He was born in Amenia on November 10, 1774. He attended the district school and a private classical school in Kent, Connecticut. He studied medicine in the University of Pennsylvania and commenced practice in Washington County. He moved to Fabius (now Truxton).

He served as coroner of Cortland, postmaster of Truxton, organized the Cortland County Medical Society, and was its first vice president. Miller served as justice of the peace, was a member of the New York State Assembly, and was judge of the county court. He was elected as an Adams candidate to the Nineteenth Congress (March 4, 1825-March 3, 1827), and was a delegate to the state constitutional convention in 1846. Miller died in Truxton on March 31, 1862 with interment in the City Cemetery.
