John Meagher (horse trainer)

John Meagher (born September 17, 1948 in Melbourne, Australia ) is a Melbourne Cup winning trainer who relocated to Singapore from Melbourne in 1999. Meagher trained What A Nuisance to a win in the 1985 Melbourne Cup. Ridden by Pat Hyland and owned by Lloyd Williams the win was particulary memorable for the attendance of Prince Charles and Lady Diana who presented the winning connections with the famous trophy. It was also the first Melbourne Cup to offer $1,000,000 in prize money.

Winning a quality listed race in dubai with Lim's classic against world class competition. Was the first singapore trained horse to do so. Trained 4 winners in a day 6 times. Mentored apprentice Adam fizan to 2 apprentice championship titles. John is currently leading the trainers ladder with 40 wins,5 ahead of his nearest rival and the highest strike rate at 19.42%.
