John McAreavey

John McAreavey (born 2 February 1949 is the Bishop of the Diocese of Dromore. He was born in Banbridge, County Down, Northern Ireland. He was ordained a priest on 10 June 1973 for diocese. On 4 June, 1999 he was appointed bishop for the diocese[1]. He was ordained a bishop on 19 September, of the same year. The Principal Consecrator was Archbishop Seán Brady; his Principal Co-Consecrators were Bishop John Magee, SPS and Francis Brooks (Roman Catholic Bishop).

His name has been mentioned by many commentators as a possible successor to Patrick Walsh (Bishop), Bishop of Down and Connor, who is expected to retire during 2007[citation needed].
