John Kraft

John Kraft (born May 6, 1941) is an American politician. He is currently a member of the Democratic Party and a was candidate for Insurance Commissioner of California in the 2006 democratic primary. His occupation on the ballot was listed as Insurance Healthcare Consultant. Kraft received 631,000 votes (30%), losing to Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante.[1]

Kraft is a grandson of a founder of Kraft Foods and helped to develop the packaging for individually wrapped sliced cheese (Kraft Singles). [1]He received a Bachelor's degree from Baylor University and a master's degree in business administration from Loyola University Chicago.

In 1994 Kraft also ran (and lost) for the Democratic nomination for California Insurance Commissioner against Art Torres and Burt Margolin. Kraft noted Torres was "as dumb as a dinner plate." Kraft received 401,000 votes (19%).[1]

Kraft lives in South Pasadena, California and is Chair of the Kraft Family Foundation.
