John J. Palmer

John J. Palmer is an author and metallurgist working in Research and Development at 3M Unitek in Monrovia, California. His self published book, How to Brew, is often considered required reading for anyone considering brewing beer at home. Palmer is an active member of the homebrewing community and continues to share his knowledge and experience.

Mr. Palmer began writing How to Brew in 1995. After long and arduous rounds of editing, Palmer decided to place the text of the book on the Internet. The Real Beer Page hosted what ended up being the first edition of the book. To this day it still remains free for anyone to read at howtobrew.com. Palmer finally self-published How to Brew in 2000. The Third Edition was released in late May of 2006.

Mr. Palmer recently co-authored Brewing Classic Styles: 80 Winning Recipes Anyone Can Brew with Jamil Zainasheff. Brewing Classic Styles provides "award winning" recipes for every recognized BJCP category.

Mr. Palmer is from Midland, Michigan and attended Michigan Technological University. He graduated with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1987.
