John I of Nassau-Weilburg

Count John I of Nassau-Weilburg (13091371), Count of Nassau in Weilburg in 1355-1371.

He was a son of Count Gerlach I of Nassau-Wiesbaden and Agnes of Hesse.

He was married two times. Firstly, he married in 1333 with Gertrud of Merenberg (d. 1350), heiress of Merenberg and Gleiberg. Secondly, he married in 1353 with Johanna of Saarbrücken, Dame de Commercy. John I has the following children:

  1. Johann (d. 6 October 1365).
  2. Philipp I of Nassau-Weilburg
  3. Johanna (1362–1 January 1383), married in 1377 to Landgrave Hermann II of Hesse.
  4. Johannette (d. 6 October 1365).
  5. Agnes (d. 1401), married in 1382 to Count Simon III Wecker of Zweibrücken-Bitsch.
  6. Schonette (d. 25 April 1436), married:
    1. on 30 June 1384 to Heinrich X of Homburg;
    2. in 1414 to Duke Otto of Braunschweig-Grubenhagen.
  7. Margarete (d. 22 January 1427), married ca. 1393 to Count Frederick III of Veldenz.
