From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dr. John Huong is a Malaysian geologist who worked for Royal Dutch Shell for 27 years. After becoming disenchanted with what he regarded as that corporation's lack of business ethics, he became a whistleblower. He is currently being sued by eight different subsidiaries of the multinational for defamation. Huong's leaks led to Shell's shareholders discovering that it did not have as much oil and gas reserves as it said it had in 2004. Shell's share price subsequently fell 10%. Huong also alleged important safety issues surrounding the Kinabalu oil platform were being ignored, and that its helicopter fleet was deficient. He is currenly threatened with imprisonment in Malaysia for contempt of court.
