John Joseph Hogg (born 19 March 1949), is a politician, and has been a member of the Australian Senate for the state of Queensland since July 1996, representing the Australian Labor Party.

Hogg was born in Brisbane, and educated at the University of Queensland, where he graduated in science. He was an official with the Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA) from 1976 to 1996. The SDA is one of the leading unions supporting the right-wing faction of the Labor Party.

In August 2002 Hogg was elected Deputy President of the Senate and Chairman of Committees.

Hogg was elected by the Labor caucus as their candidate for President of the Senate when the new Senate is sworn in on July 1, 2008. As the government's nominee for the position, he will almost definitely succeed incumbent President Alan Ferguson when the new Senate convenes on 26 August 2008.[1]
