John Gogo

John Gogo is a former provincial politician and career soldier in the Canadian Armed Forces. From 1949 to 1962 he served as a in the Canadian Army attaining the rank of Sargent. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1975 to 1993.

[edit] Early life
Gogo joined the Canadian Armed Forces. He went overseas and served in combat in the Korea War.[1] In 1972 Gogo became President of the Rotary Club of Lethbridge.[2]
[edit] Political career
Gogo ran as a Progressive Conservative candidate in the 1975 Alberta general election. He defeated incumbent Social Credit MLA Richard Gruenwald by a wide margin to win his first term in office and pickup the seat for the Progressive Conservatives.[3] He was re-elected in the 1979 Alberta general election significantly increasing his popular vote.[4] In the 1982 Alberta general election Gogo won a landslide, the largest plurality of political his career as he defeated four other candidates.[5] He would loose almost 5,000 votes from his 1982 total running for a fourth term in office in the 1986 Alberta general election[6] [7]

On May 31, 2007 Gogo was awarded an honorary honorary doctorate degree from the University of Lethbridge.[8]
