John G. Davis

John Givan Davis (October 10, 1810 - January 18, 1866) was a U.S. Representative from Indiana.

Born near Flemingsburg, Kentucky, Davis moved to Indiana with his parents, who settled in Rockville, Parke County, in 1819. He attended the country schools. He engaged in agricultural pursuits. Sheriff of Parke County from 1830 to 1833, when he resigned. He served as clerk of the county court 1833-1850.

Davis was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-second and Thirty-third Congresses (March 4, 1851-March 3, 1855). He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1854 to the Thirty-fourth Congress.

Davis was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress and reelected as an Anti-Lecompton Democrat to the Thirty-sixth Congress (March 4, 1857-March 3, 1861). He was not a candidate for renomination in 1860 to the Thirty-seventh Congress. He engaged in mercantile pursuits and meat packing in Montezuma, Indiana. He moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, and engaged in business as a dry-goods merchant. He died in Terre Haute, Indiana, on January 18, 1866. He was interred in Highland Lawn Cemetery.
