He attended Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, the same high school Mark Cuban attended.
As an undergraduate, he played college football at the Ohio State University, where he set a school record for receptions by a tight end (121). All-Big Ten as a junior and senior, Frank ranks 4th on the all-time Ohio State receiving list with 121 catches for 1,481 yards and 9 touchdowns. The receptions and yardage totals are the most in school history by a tight end. He was a 3-year starter, catching a personal high 45 passes in 1981 and again in 1983, still a record total for tight ends. He was voted the team MVP as a senior. In the classroom, Frank was a 2-time Academic All-American and was a Rhodes Scholar nominee as a senior.[1]
