John Fletcher Darby

John Fletcher Darby (December 10, 1803 - May 11, 1882) was a U.S. Representative from Missouri.
Born in Person County, North Carolina, Darby attended the public schools. He moved with his father to Missouri in 1818, where he worked on a farm. He moved to Frankfort, Kentucky, in 1825. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar and afterward practiced in St. Louis, Missouri. He served as mayor of St. Louis 1835-1841. He served as member of the Missouri Senate in 1838.
Darby was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress (March 4, 1851-March 3, 1853). He returned to St. Louis and engaged in banking. He died near Pendleton Station, Missouri, May 11, 1882. He was interred in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
