John FitzRobert

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John FitzRobert is listed as one of the Surety Barons in Magna Carta (1215) where he is described as Lord of Warkworth Castle.

However the Warkworth Castle entry in Wikipedia suggests the castle, in Northumberland, was given to Roger FitzRichard around 1157, whose family continued to hold it until the early fourteenth century; then the descendants of FitzRichard encountered financial problems, including the cost of the upkeep of the castle, and ownership reverted to the Crown in 1332.

Perhaps Roger had a son called Robert, who would have been known as Robert FitzRoger, and the latter a son John who might have been known in his turn as John FitzRobert. The absence of information about these might be the result of their unimportance as a reflection of the growing poverty of the family.
