From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Father John Emerson (b. 1946), who is native from California, entered the Dominican order as a young man. After a few years, he left the order to join the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX). He was ordained a priest in Écône for this same society, by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, but left shortly after Archbishop Lefebvre consecrated four bishops against the wishes of Pope John Paul II in June 1988, along with FF. Bisig, Baumann, Recktenwald, Prosinger and a few others. Together, they founded the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) with the approval of Rome. For several years, Father Emerson taught at Wigratzbad, the priestly seminary of the Fraternity in southern Germany. He is Jonathan Baker by birth and is presently based in Edinburgh. He produces a quarterly newsletter entitled Videre Petrum.
