John Dourgarian was a Public Information Officer from 1995 to 2002 with the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
He was perhaps the most extensively quoted Public Information Officer in the New York Metropolitan Area, a region that is the busiest and most heavily transportation-dependent in the world.
The following is a sampling of his quotes from media publications during that time period:
"When it comes to bridge safety, we are diligent to the point of obsession."
"We practice a simple of rule of thumb for winter weather: hope for the best, but prepare for the worst."
"The Commissioner feels quite strongly that we cannot build our way out of congestion."
Our mission is not easy, but simple: move people efficiently, safely, and reliably."
"The Route 35 Cloverleaf Interchange worked well for Model T's, but it is no longer able to handle today's traffic volumes and speeds."
"New Jersey is the crossroads of the Northeast, and the Route 4 and 17 interchange is the crossroads of New Jersey."
"The traffic volumes on some of our ramps match the overall volumes of Interstate highways in Wyoming or Nebraska."
Dourgarian served as a Public Information Officer under New Jersey Transportation Commissioners Frank J. Wilson, John J. Haley, Jr., and James Weinstein.
