John "The Butcher" Clifford, 9th Lord of Skipton (d. 1461) was a member of the Clifford family which held the seat of Skipton from 1310 to 1676. He is reputed [1] to have cut off the head of the Duke of York at the Battle of Wakefield in 1460. He is also believed to have killed the Duke's teenage son, Edmund, in cold blood, which earned him his ghastly nickname.
