[edit] Location and Information

It is located east of Bristol, England in the Kingswood area and is named after John Cabot, an explorer who set out from Bristol and reached the Americas in 1497.

The Academy has approximately 1100 students, about 220 of whom are in the sixth form. It has recently built a new £1.4 million 'Study Centre' constructed with environmentally friendly materials and methods specifically for the sixth form pupils. It was opened officially on Monday 6 December 2004 by Mr Colin Green, President of Defence Aerospace at Rolls Royce.

The current Principal is Nick Jones, while David Carter is the Executive Principal.

In year 7, the Academy operates the Cabot Competency Curriculum, which was developed at the academy. It focuses on 'learning to learn', and is a whole new curriculum and a whole new way of teaching.

[edit] Term system and school day

The Academy runs on a 5-term system, each of around 7-9 weeks, with 2 weeks of holiday in between.

The Academy day has recently changed, as expected. It now ends at 3.35pm and starts at the same time of 8.30am, but students are encouraged to arrive for 8:20 so not to be late for tutor time (registration).

[edit] "Student Voice"

The Academy has a "Student Voice" system (Run mainly by the Principal, David Carter), set up at the beginning of the Academic year 2005–2006, which allows the students to give their opinions on issues related to the academy, such as sanctions and rewards, and the construction of new buildings. One student from each tutor group is chosen each term, which (For those in Year 7 when it began) should mean each student is picked at least once. The chosen student becomes the representative of their tutor group, collecting opinions from their classmates to relay to the meeting.

[edit] Trivia
