John Bellany CBE, RA (born 18. June 1942) is a Scottish painter. He was born in Port Seton.

During the 1960s, he studied at Edinburgh College of Art and then at the Royal College of Art in London.

In much of his work, he has drawn inspiration from the coastal communities from which he came. His health problems which led to a liver transplant have also inspired works.

A recent move to Barga in Tuscany Italy has drastically changed his work which is now showing a huge optimism in the brighter colour range used.
