John Beattie (rugby player)

John Beattie (born November 27, 1957), rugby union player. He earned a total of 25 caps playing for Scotland as No. 8. Now he is one of the game's top commentators and pundits in Scotland, and hosts BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound programme on Six Nations rugby days and is the weekly host of the popular sports magazine programme, Sports Weekly with John Beattie.

Mid-life Crisis started on BBC Radio Scotland in September, 2006 presented by John. He now coaches West of Scotland.

His son also called John, recently won his first cap in a victory against Romania. His daughter Jenny plays for both the Scottish International ladies side and Celtic F.C. ladies team.

In 2004, he was a candidate for Rector of the University of Glasgow, and in fact holds a degree in Civil Engineering from that institution.
