John Baxter (explorer)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John Baxter (–29 April 1841) was a friend and companion of Edward John Eyre on his crossing of the Nullarbor Plain in 1840-1841. When the party was low on supplies and in desperate need of water, somewhere near present-day Caiguna, Baxter was murdered by two of the aboriginies with the group, who then left only Eyre and Wylie to complete the journey.
