John Bakel (born October 14, 1972 in New York) is a New York fashion designer. He studied history, physics and Arabic at New York University. His eponymous line is filled with incredibly feminine and ultra modern silhouettes. All of his dresses and separates are painstakingly created using couture construction techniques in luxurious French silks. Bakel is noted for the artistic approach to the creation of his women’s silhouette.[1]
While his own line contains no denim, he is widely considered a master denim designer. He possesses a scholarly knowledge of denim fit, wash, and silhouette design. He is considered to be one of the major denim design innovators of the last 10 years. He is highly sought after by US, European, and Japanese fashion houses as a design consultant. Fabric mills, zipper and hardware manufacturers also often approach him for advice due to his expansive knowledge of all the material components required in the manufacturing of blue jeans.
