John Atherton (pioneer)

John Atherton, born August 9, 1837 and died May 16, 1913, was an explorer of the Far North Queensland area of Queensland, Australia.

John Atherton was born in Lancashire, England and was the second son of nine children. Prior to heading north, John gained experience in farming sheep, wheat and other mixed crops on the family property at Armidale, New South Wales.
