John Ashburnham
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
John Ashburnham (1603 – June 15, 1671) was a member of the Long Parliament, representing his home county of Sussex. The son of Sir John Ashburnham, he was a faithful adherent and attendant to King Charles I of England. Ashburnham assisted the King in 1646 in his escape from Oxford, and again in 1648 when he escaped from Hampton Court Palace.[1] Consequently the Commonwealth authorities detained him in the Tower of London and three times banished him to the Channel Islands.[1]
After the Restoration he served Charles II as a diplomat.[1]
