John Alvheim

John Ingolf Alvheim (May 21, 1930, Øygarden, Hordaland - December 5, 2005) was a Norwegian politician for the Progress Party. By education a nurse anesthetist, he represented Telemark in parliament from 1989 - 2005, and led the Health Committee from 1997 - 2005. In the years 1973 - 1977 he was a parliamentary vice representative for the Christian People's Party, but broke with the party to join the Progress Party. Alvheim was highly respected, also by his political opponents, for his vigorous fight for society's disadvantaged. He also devoted much of his life to help less fortunate kids in developing countries, even building an orphanage for children in Bangladesh in 1979.
