John A. Allison IV

John A. Allison IV is the chairman and chief executive officer of BB&T, a financial holdings company listed on the New York Stock Exchange with more than $100 billion in managed assets[1]. Allison was born on August 14, 1948[2], in Charlotte, North Carolina[3]. He began his career with BB&T in 1971 following his graduation from the University of North Carolina with a degree in business administration[4][5]. He also earned an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University[6] in 1974, and since has received an honorary doctorate from East Carolina University. He is a trustee of Appalachian State University, and serves on the Board of Visitors of the Fuqua School of Business[7]. He has a wife, Betty, and three children[8]. He is a major contributor to the Ayn Rand Institute.
