From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johan Classon Rising (1617 – 1672) was the last governor of the Swedish colony of New Sweden in Delaware. After becoming governor in 1654, Rising tried to expel Dutch colonists from Fort Casimir (present-day New Castle, Delaware). The New Netherlands governor, Peter Stuyvesant, called Dutch troops into New Sweden as a response. The colony was overrun and ceased to exist.
