An early 18th-century portrait of John Vanbrugh, by Godfrey Kneller. Vanbrugh is wearing the badge of office of Clarenceux King of Arms, a position he held from 1704 to 1725.
The painting is from about 1704–1710, when Vanbrugh was 40–45 years old. It is an oil on canvas, measuring 36x28 inches (914x711 millimeters). It is currently on display at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
It was digitized with a scanner from the cover of "Sir John Vanbrugh: A Biography", and uploaded to :en by en:User:Bishonen.
The horizontal white marks are cracks in the actual painting's varnish, not scanner artifacts.
See Image:John Vanbrugh.jpg for a much smaller, lossily compressed version for use in articles. This image is only to be used for modifications or conversions.
