Jogezai

Jogezai is a Pashtun tribe settled in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The majority of the Jogezais live in the valley of Zhob in Pakistan. Due to certain tribal feudes, they had to migrate to other parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. In Pakistan the Jogzai tribe inhabit the Killa Saifullah and Loralai areas. Jogezai is a leading and controlling sub tribe of the Kakars. Kakar is one of the major pashtoon tribe residing in Afghanistan and in Pakistan.

The Pashton Nawab belongs to Killa Saifullah. The Pashton have only one Nawab (Prince Nawab Taimur Shah Jogizai was one of the most popular personality during British rule.

Nawab Muhammad Ayaz Khan Jogezai is the present Nawab of this Pashton tribe. He is also the leader of the Pashton Jirga and Senator of Pakistan. He is also an important member of Pahton Khwa Mili Awami Party. Their chief (Sardar) or head of the Jogezai tribe was Baikar Khan, the title of Badshah-e-Zhob or the King of Zhob was bestowed upon him by Ahmed Shah Abdali (Durrani). Baikar Khan along with his tribemen went accompanied the Afghan King for his expedetion to conquered India.

At that time Zhob was part of Afghanistan until the British took it over. The Jogezais hold a very prominent position among the Pashtun tribe of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Currently Nawab Mohammad Ayaz Khan Jogezai is the tribal leader of Kakar tribe being the direct descendent of Baikar Khan or Baihar Nika & the great grand son Nawab Mohammad Khan Jogezai who was the eldest son of Sardar Bangul Khan Jogezai (King of former Zhob). During the British rule, Sardar Bangul Khan was given the title of Sardar and later the title of Nawab was also given to his son Nawab Mohammad Khan in early 1920's. At the same time the Britishers also awarded the title of Sardad Bahadur to Sardar Mohammad Akbar Khan Jogezai in 1906 whoes grand son Sardar Gul Mohammad Khan Jogezai remained as Governor of Balochistan Provience during the General Zia-ul-Haqs regeime. As usual, the British policy of devide and rule was applied which resulted into splitting and dividing the Jogezais into three different heads of one tribe.
