Jogbani is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 67 metres (219 feet).In its north lie biratnagar one of the major cities of Nepal.

As of 2001 India census[2], Jogbani had a population of 29,962. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Jogbani has an average literacy rate of 37%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 47%, and female literacy is 26%. In Jogbani, 19% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Jogbani is served by two railway lines. One metre gauge line branches from the Patna to Katihar main line. The other metre gauge line subject to conversion under Project Unigauge comes from Patna in the southeast directly. From this year ie 2008 there will be broad gauge betn JOGBANI and KATIHAR.[3]
