[edit] Welcome
|
Hello, Joeyhagedorn, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}}
on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The Five Pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Editing tutorial
- Picture tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Naming conventions
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Please also see:
- this (Talk:S-video)page where you nominated two articles for merger. Please annote such talks as is implicit in the use of the template with your reasons for applying same, and make sure to make a clear and visible edit summary when using such 'In Your Face' banner templates.
- I prefer 'IN YOUR FACE' Summaries such as those used by us who type such, so they stand out like 'ASSERT MERGETO TEMPLATE because...' or 'ASSERT CLEAN TEMPLATE because...' as others will come along later and have to spend their precious free time seeing how long such have aged. This can take a long while if the system is running slow and there are many changes in an edit history. Hence, it's a professional way to make sure your fellow volunteers are getting the best use for their time. In a word, it's Courteous!!!, and that's precious by itself! <g>
- So give me a yell if you need a hand, and tidy up in the link I left with a reason, if you feel strongly about your proposal. Don't forget to log in either-- there are benefits (Your watch list is a big one!) Best regards, FrankB 22:02, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
FrankB, Thanks for the tips. I'll spend some time reading to become a better Wikipedian. I've responded to your comment on this (Talk:S-video)page regarding the merger.

[edit] I need help with the binding of control-e to the edit page
As a long-time Emacs user, my fingers are hardwired to press control-e to jump to the end of the line when editing text, and my web-browser, Safari, generally supports this. Unfortunately it appears as if the MediaWiki software binds this to jump to the edit page. This makes me loose all my edits on a page, at least twice per Wikipedia editing session. Is there any way to turn this off after logging in? If there isn't, where can I start working to implement the feature in MediaWiki or at least request it?
Thanks, Joey 04:54, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- While my gut says this has to be overwriteable in the local .css, perhaps this is a question you should be asking on WP:VPT -- ∞Wirelain 04:59, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Turns out you can do it by editing User:<insertnamehere>/monobook.js

[edit] Nikon F-mount
You made this change to the Nikon F-mount article. Why did you change the word "all" to "many"? Can you name a Nikon-based Kodak DSLR that is not F-mount compatible? Thanks. --Stybn 01:50, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
Stybn, Yep, There are several: DCS Pro SLR/c, DCS 560, DCS 520, EOS-DCS 1. All of these use a Canon EF mount. While you could argue that there is a "version" of the DCS Pro SLR that is F-mount compatible, I think it is misleading to suggest that all Kodak DSLRs use exclusively the Nikon F-mount.
