Joel Wijesuria was born in 1985 in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. As a child he was deeply interested in computers, music, video and women. As a teenager, he was deeply interested in computers, music, video and women. As an adult, he was interested in computers, music, video, food and women.
These eclectic tastes combined and made him switch from studying Computer Science to studying Audio Engineering and Recording Arts. His interest in film technology also dates from around this time (mid 2005).
After returning from Singapore where he had completed his Diploma in Audio Engineering at [1]SAE Singapore (2005), he collaborated with a friend, Mickey Todiwala to film a short feature titled Comus. Comus was filmed in the space of a day and in three different locations. It was filmed with just one actor and two offscreen characters. The movie was based on an experimental screenplay that Mickey Todiwala wrote.
Joel started J.W. Studios, Kuala Lumpur to deal with the editing of this movie. All the audio and video editing was done here.
Joel is currently waiting to start his degree course at [2]SAE Byron Bay, Australia and planning to direct yet another short film about human nature.
