USAPATRIOT Act
Why did you move USA PATRIOT Act to the rather oddly named USAPATRIOT Act? Seems the space should be there. older≠wiser 17:42, Jan 27, 2005 (UTC)
GNU
It's just the way it was said. GNU isn't really an OS, people use the term to refer to a set of tools. So saying a "GNU operating system" isn't quite right. I had originally thought that there were efforts to use the BSD toolkit with the Linux kernel, but unfortunately I had this confused with Debian's efforts with GNU and the NetBSD kernel, so I've reattempted the wording with your intent.

My Name
Well, I wasn't born with it you know, it just sort of came upon me when the late Mr Trellis arrived but it seems to have stuck. It was nice to be noticed. And to think I was down your way on Sunday. Lovely day it was up on Bangor Mountain except for all those young people dropping litter, students I expect they were. Anyways, I was coming down into Lon Pobty and despairing of the state of the buildings that the college has up there. Lovely they were in their time too.

Dashes
Regarding my edit of Free content's dashes, well actually Wikipedia:Manual of Style_(dashes) says not to change " -- " to use the mdash entity. It also says that " -- " will become the default style for wikitext em-dashes. That's why I use it. Of course, the actual dash character should be rendered in the HTML (by the wikitext interpreter). Probably, though, I shouldn't have made the revert I did -- two wrongs don't make a right. —Alexander 09:52, 2005 Mar 17 (UTC)
Double redirects
When creating redirects, please double check them so you do not create a double-redirect. In other words, your newly created redirects should not go to another redirect. I had to fix Winner take all, Single member district plurality, and SMDP so that they redirect directly to First Past the Post electoral system. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 12:25, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
- I would agree that double-redirects should work for users, but the problem really has to do with the fact that they put an unnecessary extra load on the web servers, which can really help slow the web site down even more if there is a bunch of traffic. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 12:41, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
You Sir are ready for level 3
Edit summary
When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.
