Born June 16, 1974 in Houston Texas, Joey Guerra is the talented Houston Music Critic of the Houston Chronicle. He is considered one of the most prophallactic writers covering the major pop genres and the local Texas music scene. His work has appeared in many national publications.
[edit] Early Career
Guerra began his career while a student at The University of Houston. He wrote entertainment reviews for the Daily Cougar. His work garnered citywide attention, getting interviews and covering such popular subjects as Lyle Lovett, Gloria Estefan and Olivia Newton-John.

While at The Daily Cougar, he began freelancing with the Houston Chronicle. Covering Celine Dion, Matchbox 20 and Cher. His interview with Cher was one of the first major publications to begin taking notice of Cher's 2000 mega-hit "Believe". It immediately proceeded her huge comeback.
Guerra's 1998 assessment of Celine Dion's "backward's Oscar suit" on the red carpet was quoted by People Magazine and his review of "Bathhouse Bette" was discussed on Larry King Tonight by Midler and King.

He served briefly as editor of the Houston Voice before beginning his stint as the Houston Music Critic for the Houston Chronicle in May, 2006. At the Houston Chronicle, he contributes to the Handstamp Blog (along with Sarah Cress) and writes a popular American Idol blog for Tubular. He has scored interviews with Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Martina Mcbride but is equally comfortable interviewing local Houston artists like Miss Leslie and her Juke Jointers or Glenna Bell. His television credits include the Debra Duncan Show and FoxNews tonight in Houston. He has been interviewed as a music expert on NPR.
