Joel Gausten (born July 17, 1977) is an United States drummer, author and journalist.
A drummer since age 9, Gausten has appeared on over 40 CDs, EPs and internationally distributed compilations with such acts as Electric Frankenstein, the Sixth Chamber, Broken Heroes and the Graveyard School. Since 1998, he has served as a frequent member of The Undead. In 2001, he performed as a member of Pigface. In 1995, he briefly rehearsed with the Misfits as a fill-in drummer while the group was auditioning permanent members. Although he was never an official member of the band, Gausten later appeared on a number of Misfits bootlegs recorded during these rehearsal sessions. Gausten also worked with the Misfits as a promoter, booking and coordinating the band's legendary "homecoming" show at Action Park in Vernon, New Jersey on August 26, 1996.
As of May 2008, he is again working with Electric Frankenstein and participating in the "secret" punk project Kung Fu Killers (with members of Christian Death and Shadow Project) while still an active member of The Undead.
To date, he has written nearly 1,500 articles in a variety of music, gaming and automotive publications.
Gausten's books include Tales of Horror: The History of THE MISFITS & THE UNDEAD,Pandemonium: Inside Killing Joke, Prong: The Early Years and The SABBATH Interviews. Gausten's upcoming books include Rock N Roll Monster: The Rik L Rik Story and Albums that (Should've) Changed the World. He is also co-producer of an upcoming tribute album to Betty Blowtorch and a contributor to/editor for Martin Atkins' best-selling book, Tour:Smart.
Gausten is a Second Degree Satanist (Warlock) in the Church of Satan.
