[edit] Character history
[edit] Background
Joe is Sarah Walker's husband. He is a guitar instructor who works from home. He has two children (Paige and Cooper) with Sarah and one child (Gabriel) from a previous marriage.
[edit] Season 1
Joe and Sarah have problems with their marriage when Sarah comes home to find Joe having more fun with another adult (Vanessa) than they had had in a long time. They seek counseling and in one episode, Rebecca confronts Justin about Joe kissing her during their guitar lessons. Yet it turns out that Rebecca wanted it all to happen actually hoping it would go further yet Joe stopped it. Even though he stopped it, the incident still had devastating affects on Joe and Sarah's marriage. This causes further tension in the marriage, to a point were they are heavily considering a divorce, all of this of course leads to turmoil in the Walker family.
[edit] Season 2
When the season begins, Joe and Sarah, although separated, are getting along better. This culminates in them having sex on top of Sarah's washing machine. By the next episode, Joe tells her he wants a divorce, that he had reunited with his first wife before he had sex with Sarah, and that the sex was a mistake.
A few episodes later, Joe shocks Sarah when he demands full custody of their children. She tries to gather references to support her side, but finds Joe has already gotten them to say he is the better parent. Since Joe is the primary caregiver, the judge gives him temporary full custody.
However, this causes great distress to Paige (their daughter) who runs away to her grandmother Nora's house on her first weekend with her mother. Seeing the upset that they have caused to their daughter, Joe agrees to joint custody of the children.
