From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joe Sellwood (January 24, 1911October 18, 2007) was a New Zealand born[1] Australian rules football player, playing 181 games from 1930-1945. Sellwood, recruited from Wunghnu Football Club was part of the Geelong Football Club 1937 premiership team.[2]

Prior to his death in 2007, at 96 years old, he was recognised as the oldest VFL/AFL premiership player and was given honorary induction into the AFL 200 Club, because his career suffered significant interruption during World War II, preventing him from reaching 200 games.[3] He died on 18 October 2007[2][4] at a nursing home in Belmont, Victoria. He is survived by his four daughters Lesley, Margaret, Joan and Judith, 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.[3]
